16-year old Adam Cozgood loses
his love-interest,
Kristen, to an overdose of
GHB when someone at a party
spikes her drink. The ensuing
court case, complete with
Adam's father as the defense
attorney for the prime suspect,
Willy Jefferson, unfolds during
Adam's senior year in high
school.
To Adam, Kristen represented
the best of America, i.e.
freedom. Her death, allegedly
at the hands of "the
gods", a popular group
of religious boys, causes
Adam to resent such hypocritical
enclaves that destroy.
Adam's difficulty to accept
the truth about America's
chimeric face, his anger toward
an adult-world driven more
by ego than love, his hatred
of the rampant judgment inherent
in the children of ego, his
ensuing depression and loss
of self is too much for him
to bear.
